The map of Grand Theft Auto VI will be almost as large as the playable areas of GTA IV, GTA V, and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined. This information was revealed by Edge magazine in a special report about the highly anticipated Rockstar Games title, which was also reported by GamesRadar+. According to the article, the territory of Leonida, which includes Vice City and surrounding areas, will be approximately twice the size of the GTA 5 map.

Beyond the scale, Rockstar is betting on rich detail to make the open world more realistic. The game will have around 600,000 animations for non-playable characters (NPCs), twice the size of Red Dead Redemption 2. A team based in Los Angeles worked on creating these characters, who will have their own characteristics, such as temperament and level of aggression. Reactions may also vary depending on the location, the situations witnessed, and the player's behavior.

Once again developed by Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto VI is the first GTA in thirteen years, following the astronomical success of GTA V, released in 2013. The franchise is one of the most successful in video game history.

The story of GTA VI takes place in an open world based on Florida, in the United States. Its setting is Vice City, a fictional version of Miami that debuted in the first GTA and later got its own game with 2002’s GTA Vice City.

GTA VI arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026. A PC version has not yet been announced.
