Netflix is developing a live-action adaptation of the popular game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, PUBG. The series will star Donald Glover and will be produced by the actor's brother, Stephen Glover (via Deadline).
Other names attached to the project in executive production are Michael Schaefer (The Martian) and Fam Udeorji (Atlanta); Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee, from KRAFTON, the company that owns the rights to PUBG, also appear in the credits.
There's a big question about how this adaptation will be done, since PUBG isn't exactly the most narrative-driven game on the market. The game's nature is more tied to competitive play and the idea of winning individual matches. One of the pioneers of the Battle Royale genre, the title places players on a vast map where only one of them (or only one team) can survive.
Released in 2017, the game remains one of the most played on Steam, the main PC gaming platform, to this day. It is also available for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series One and Series X|S, and Android.
