'Reacher' Season 4 Hits a New Low on Rotten Tomatoes

The fourth season of Reacher has posted the worst audience score on Rotten Tomatoes of any season of the series. The Popcornmeter, which measures viewer ratings, dropped to 71% with more than 250 votes – a significant decline from the 82% recorded at its premiere in August.

The new season’s performance contrasts with its positive critical reception, which remained high at 94% based on 33 reviews. The series, starring Alan Ritchson and based on the books by Lee Child, returned to Prime Video last month with the hero investigating the apparent suicide of a Pentagon employee on the Philadelphia subway.

The drop in audience approval is not an isolated case. Since the first season, there has been a consistent decline in viewer scores:

Season Critics Audience
1 92% 91%
2 98% 77%
3 98% 74%
4 94% 71%

The most recent negative reviews point to flaws in the script, the performances of the supporting cast, and departures from the book version of Reacher.

Everything you need to know about season 4 of Reacher

Christopher Rodriguez-Marquette will play Jacob Merrick, a small-town police officer from Lee Child’s 13th Jack Reacher book, Gone Tomorrow, on which the new season is based. Jacob becomes Jack Reacher’s (Ritchson) number one ally in his new mission.

The book begins when Reacher witnesses a suicide on the New York City subway. He soon discovers that the woman worked for the Pentagon and had been caught up in a conspiracy involving a corrupt politician, Al Qaeda terrorists, and several killers. Reacher then races against the clock alongside the woman’s brother, Jacob, to uncover the mystery of why Susan Mark killed herself, find her missing son, and also save his own life from powerful people.
