The half-hour comedy will follow a mockumentary style, much like The Office and Modern Family, for example. The first season will center on the DC villain, played by Jimmy Tatro, a super-intelligent ape convicted of murdering his father, the King of Gorilla City. The eight episodes will follow Jimmy Olsen, a reporter for the Daily Planet, as he reopens the case and investigates whether Gorilla Grodd was wrongfully convicted in one of Metropolis’s most famous murder trials.
The cast will include the return of actors and characters from Superman, such as Beck Bennett playing Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant and Wendell Pierce as Perry White. Joining them in the series are: Mary Holland, Eduardo Franco, Arian Moayed, Dan Perrault, Andrew Leeds, and Tim Baltz.
Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault will serve as showrunners, writers, and executive producers, with Yacenda also directing all episodes. James Gunn and Peter Safran are also on board.
The People v. Gorilla Grodd still does not have a set release date, but it is expected to premiere after the Superman sequel.
