In an interview with The New York Times, Rockstar North producer Rob Nelson revealed that it took him around 80 hours to beat Grand Theft Auto VI in February.

That time includes the main campaign and some optional objectives with branching storylines, but it’s unclear whether that also includes freely exploring the open world.

Either way, that figure already makes the new title Rockstar’s longest game to date. GTA IV and GTA V are around 30 hours long, while Red Dead Redemption 2 comes in at about 50 to 60 hours.

Nelson said he hopes players take their time with the game. The franchise has always been known for its open world packed with activities, and GTA VI should be no different, with options like basketball, fishing, working out, and a huge variety of side missions. Expectations are that the game will offer hundreds of hours of content for those aiming for full completion.

Everything you need to know about GTA VI

Once again developed by Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto VI is the first GTA in thirteen years, following the astronomical success of GTA V, released in 2013. The franchise is one of the most successful in video game history.

The story of GTA VI takes place in an open world based on Florida, in the United States. Its setting is Vice City, a fictional version of Miami that debuted in the first GTA and later got its own game with 2002’s GTA Vice City.

GTA VI arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026. A PC version has not yet been announced.
