Recently, Max Greenfield, who played Schmidt on New Girl, had said he had seen a script for a cast reunion. However, it seems the actor got confused, and it’s not a special episode but rather an appearance at an event.
What he mistook for a series reunion is actually a tribute to the cast at the Chrysalis Butterfly Ball, a charity event taking place on October 10 in Los Angeles.
The group — made up of Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Lamorne Morris, Hannah Simone, and Greenfield himself — will receive the Rising Phoenix Award, which recognizes the show’s theme of fresh starts. Greenfield will also host the event.
"I read the email subject line, which said 'New Girl Reunion,'" he explained. "I’m still a work in progress. I just hope this small mix-up doesn’t overshadow the light we’re trying to shine on such an incredible organization."
The Butterfly Ball is Chrysalis’ main fundraising event, an organization that for more than 40 years has helped vulnerable people find work and build futures, regardless of their past.
The organization has already served more than 95,000 people in California, and in 2025, around 2,200 clients found jobs through its programs. Greenfield will also host the event, which will additionally honor Banc of California CEO Jared Wolff with the Corporate Trailblazer Award.
