After 'Margo's Got Money Troubles', Michelle Pfeiffer Wants to Focus on TV: "Much More Fun"

Michelle Pfeiffer seems to have really found her groove as Shyanne in Margo's Got Money Troubles, one of the newest Apple TV sensations. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress confessed she found it "much more fun" to be in a stacked ensemble rather than carry feature films on her own.

“I never want to star in another movie, I swear to God. I only want to do ensemble pieces. It’s so much more fun, I love it so much", she stated. 

In the show, she plays Shyanne, mother to the troubled Margo Millet (Elle Fanning) and ex-wife to Jinx (Nick Offerman). Alongside Margo's best friend Susie (Thaddea Graham) and Shyanne's pastor husband Kenny (Greg Kinnear), the family attempts to collectively navigate providing for Margo's son, Bodhi (Graham Hendrix), while tangled in their own pending relationship issues.

Embracing Shyanne made her realize how "female performances [...] are really just owning TV". She highlighted how these types of characters are "complicated and flawed" in a way that makes them stand out, from her point of view, in comparison to movies. The role also landed her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

"It really reminds me of that famous Robin Williams quote where he says, ‘Remember that everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about, and be kind.’ That kind of, for me, sums up the show and the message of the show, and I’m really proud to be a part of it.”

Adapted into a television series from a novel written by Rufi Thorpe, Margo's Got Money Troubles stars Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, Greg Kinner, Nick Offerman, Thaddea Graham and more in a comedy-drama series focused on Margo's (Fanning) trying to become financially independent from her troubled parents to provide for her son, Bodhi. 

Created by David E. Kelley (Presumed Innocent), the show received eight Emmy Awards nominations for its first season—including Outstanding Comedy Series. All eight episodes are currently available to watch on Apple TV.
