The creator of the universe of Game of Thrones, George R.R. Martin, revealed that he has been facing a long emotional battle. In a post made on his blog — the first written by him in about six months — the author said he went through a period of depression, despite also having experienced glorious moments in his career.

According to Martin, 2026 has been a difficult year: "This year has been… stressful, to say the least. So much has been happening, it’s been overwhelming. Some great things, exciting things. Dreams coming true. But there have been nightmares too", he wrote. The author said he lost friends and faced emotional struggles. "I battled sadness and depression. The worst may be yet to come", he confessed. Martin also reflected on age: "I turned seventy-seven last September, and I tell you, getting old is no fun. But there have been amazing times as well".

The writer also stated that he intends to go back to updating fans more frequently, since the latest posts had been made by his assistants.

He ended the blog post remembering that A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms is nominated for 9 Primetime Emmy Awards: "including the big one, Best Drama", he highlighted. "I am proud of our team, and hope we take home a few of the statues, but I will confess that I was hoping we’d get a few of the acting nominations as well", Martin wrote.
