'The Legend of Zelda' Live-Action Casts 'The Handmaid's Tale' Actress as Mysterious Character

According to Deadline, Yvonne Strahovski will play a queen in the live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. However, the site’s sources did not specify who she would be.

It’s very likely that she will play the Queen of Hyrule, Zelda’s mother, though she is not a prominent figure in the games. Usually, she is already dead by the time the games begin, so she will probably appear in some flashback from the princess’s childhood.

Originally released in 1986, the The Legend of Zelda franchise is one of the most award-winning, successful, influential, and beloved franchises in gaming history. The story of each game features different versions of Link, a brave warrior; Zelda, the Princess of Hyrule; and Ganon, an evil warlord who became a demon king. Some of the franchise’s biggest titles include Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Breath of the Wild. For now, it is unknown whether any specific incarnation of the story will be adapted, or whether Nintendo and the producers will work on an original story.

The live-action The Legend of Zelda will be directed by Wes Ball, known for helming films in the Maze Runner saga as well as Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

So far, very little is known about the plot that will be explored in the movie. The only names officially confirmed in the cast are Princess Zelda, played by Bo Bragason, and the warrior Link, played by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth.

The movie is set to premiere on May 7, 2027.
