'The Legend of Zelda' Live-Action Finds Its Ganondorf, Report Says

The cast of the live-action The Legend of Zelda may have gained a major addition. According to reporter Kyle Buchanan, of The New York Times, actor Uli Latukefu (Young Rock and Countdown) has been cast to play Ganondorf, the main villain of Nintendo’s franchise.

In the saga, Ganondorf is the leader of the Gerudo tribe and the human form of the Demon King Ganon. The character seeks to conquer the kingdom of Hyrule and take possession of the Triforce, a legendary artifact capable of granting absolute power. So far, Nintendo and Sony Pictures, the companies behind the film, have not officially confirmed the information.

Originally released in 1986, the The Legend of Zelda franchise is one of the most awarded, successful, influential, and beloved franchises in gaming history. The story of each game features different versions of Link, a brave warrior; Zelda, the princess of Hyrule; and Ganon, an evil warlord who became a demon king. Some of the franchise’s main titles are Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Breath of the Wild. For now, it is unknown whether any specific incarnation of the story will be adapted, or whether Nintendo and the producers will work on an original story.

The live-action The Legend of Zelda will be directed by Wes Ball, best known for helming films in the Maze Ranner saga as well as Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. 

So far, very little is known about the plot that will be explored in the film. The only names officially confirmed in the cast are Princess Zelda, played by Bo Bragason, and the warrior Link, played by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth.

The movie is set to premiere on May 7, 2027.
