Michael, the film that tells part of Michael Jackson's career story, already has a projected sequel, which is expected to show more of the singer during tours like Bad, Dangerous, and probably some of his legal troubles as well.

During a first-quarter earnings call with analysts, Lionsgate president Adam Fogelson said the studio is planning to begin production at the end of this year or in early 2027. Regarding the release window, he commented: "I think that end of calendar '27 and the first half of calendar '28 would be the current thought of roughly where the movie would go".

Fogelson put those remarks into context by emphasizing that the studio is still not ready to "announce everything at the moment."

Everything you need to know about Michael

Directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) and written by John Logan (Gladiator), Michael follows the King of Pop from the Jackson 5 years to the beginning of his solo career — the idea is for the story to continue in a second feature if Michael proves to be a box office success, which is exactly what has been happening.

Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson's nephew, plays him in the film. The cast also includes Colman Domingo and Nia Long as the pop star's parents, Miles Teller as the protagonist's agent, and Laura Harrier, Kat Graham and Derek Luke.

Where to watch Michael

For now, Michael is available to rent at Prime Video or Apple TV.
