Anyone hoping for the Yellowstone spin-off set at the 6666 Ranch can give up on it. Taylor Sheridan, the franchise’s creator, has confirmed that the project is no longer moving forward.
In an interview on the Rodeo Time podcast, Sheridan said he never intended to turn the ranch into a fictional story.
“There will never be one. I would never create a fictional story with that ranch.”
The 6666 Ranch, also known as Four Sixes Ranch, was founded in 1870 in Texas and is one of the best-known cattle ranches and Quarter Horse breeding operations in the world. Sheridan bought the property in 2021 along with a group of investors.
The 6666 spin-off was announced by Paramount in 2022 and would have been set on the famous ranch. The idea gained momentum after the character Jimmy Hurdstrom (Jefferson White) was sent there in the fourth season of Yellowstone.
Even so, the creator explained that he does not want to fictionalize or dramatize a place where real people live and work.
“I’m very protective of the Sixes, and it’s a huge responsibility to be the person who has to protect that ranch, so I need to be very, very careful about that,” Sheridan said.
The Yellowstone universe, however, continues to expand. The franchise has already spawned 1883 and 1923, in addition to other spin-off productions set in the same universe, such as The Madison, Marshals, and Dutton Ranch.
