For those who thought Outer Banks would come to an end with the release of its fifth and final season, get ready to stay on Kildare Island a little longer. According to exclusive information from Deadline, Netflix is developing an prequel series to Outer Banks.
The project will be set 20 years before the events of the original series and will explore the origins of the social divide between the Pogues, the working-class locals, and the Kooks, the wealthy residents of Kildare.
The story will be developed by the creators of the original production, Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke. The project, titled Kildare, is still being written and does not yet have a release date.
The plot is expected to follow the generation of the parents of characters already familiar to fans, while also introducing new names. The idea is to show how the divide between rich and poor emerged on the island and how the Kooks and Pogues groups were formed.
“We’re working on the script,” Josh Pate told Deadline. According to him, the team is developing the project in partnership with Netflix.
News of the prequel comes close to the release of the fifth and final season of the main series Outer Banks, which arrives this Thursday (20).
