Which Songs the 'Glee' Reboot Would Absolutely Cover?
Like it or not, the 'Glee' reboot is official and Ryan Murphy is already picking up songs.
As terrifying as the Glee reboot may sound for some, we have to acknowledge how much the world truly needs Lea Michele's renditions of Olivia Rodrigo's hits and the long-awaited second Faberry duet. Truth be told, Ryan Murphy's capability of holding another entire generation of teenagers in a chokehold might depend on how many Chappell Roan songs he's willing to make the cast sing this time around.
Anticipating what should happen if most of the cast ends up returning for the 20th Television production, Omelete has put together a selection of songs that are certainly crossing the director's mind—and which characters should sing them.
1. "Expectations" - Olivia Rodrigo ft. Chappell Roan

When Lea Michele and Dianna Agron sang the mashup "I Feel Pretty/Unpretty" as their characters Rachel Berry and Quinn Fabray, the world certainly stopped for two minutes and 43 seconds. Since then, another Faberry (or Achele, for the real-life shippers that remain out there in the shadows) has been top of mind for fans. The awaited duet would also be a great way to make Quinn's queerness even more official in the plot, assuming that she would sing Chappell's part.
2. "Not Like Us" - Kendrick Lamar

Artie Abrams (Kevin McHale) or Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) would probably take the lead on this one after a Mr. Schue's lesson on rap. In a typical Glee fashion, the Kendrick Lamar cover would be PG-13 and sung like a very personal diss towards someone in the choir room or, in Schue's case, Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch).
3. "Flowers" - Miley Cyrus

Although a bit out of fashion nowadays, "Flowers" is a must for a new Glee season. Miley Cyrus' empowering hit would be interpreted by a heartbroken Mercedes Jones (Amber Riley) in a performance that would certainly end up with a group hug after she comes back to the choir room to reveal that her relationship with the rockstar didn't go as expected, making Sam Evans (Chord Overstreet) have hopes again.
4. "Stick Season" - Noah Kahan

Speaking of Sam Evans, he would most certainly be given an acoustic version of Noah Kahan's "Stick Season" in order to motivate the new Glee club class in a difficult lesson. The performance would, of course, feature backing vocals from the new kids as the song went on.
5. "Good Luck, Babe!" - Chappell Roan

In a perfect world, Santana Lopez (Naya Rivera) would give her powerful voice to a rendition of Chappell Roan's "Good Luck, Babe!". The actress, who passed away in 2020 after an accidental drowning, made TV history interpreting a character with an unforgettable coming out story. Though we still don't know how her passing will be dealt with in the Glee reboot, it would be impactful to witness Quinn Fabray performing this one in memory of her late friend, who helped with her own queer discovery.
6. "Pink Pony Club" - Chappell Roan

A Glee revival wouldn't be a Glee revival without "Pink Pony Club" getting covered by Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer). I promise this is the last Chappell Roan entry in this list, but the people have spoken and Ryan Murphy simply must listen.
7. "Drivers License" - Olivia Rodrigo

Ms. Berry (or is it still Mrs. St James?) would certainly rock our worlds with her rendition of Olivia Rodrigo's debut solo single. Lea Michele herself has already taken on the duty while performing on the Kelly Clarkson Show, proving that she could also handle leading an Olivia special episode like the olden days.
8. "Espresso" - Sabrina Carpenter

Group performances are also mandatory. Though the original New Directions is no longer a thing, Sabrina Carpenter's "Espresso" would be a perfect fit for all the girls to get together and show the new class how it's done. It would be somewhat of a recreation of the "Halo"/"Walking on Sunshine" mashup scenario, but without pseudoephedrine involved.
9. "Hootie Frutti" - KATSEYE

Those who stood for the last three seasons of Glee sure do know how the series tried to keep up with the youth by a selection of viral internet songs. KATSEYE is the perfect modern choice to try and keep new generations somewhat entertained, specially if Sam is still trying to convince younger McKinley High students that being part of a school choir isn't a reputation killer.
10. "Sign of the Times" - Harry Styles
Harry Styles is a Blaine Anderson (Darren Criss) job. The original series has had its share of One Direction songs, but with the show having ended two years prior to Styles releasing his first solo album, the opportunity for Criss to win our hearts again has just now presented itself. "Sign of the Times" would be an excellent choice for a more romantic episode, but I'm sure Blaine would be able to perfectly handle any song that comes his way.
