Who is Jocasta in the comics?

Marvel

In the comics, Jocasta was created by Ultron to be his wife, and had been programmed using the brain patterns of Janet Pym, the Wasp. In the comics, Ultron is created by Hank Pym, Ant-Man, and attempts to absorb the heroine's life energy, but it ultimately goes wrong.

Originally created to be a sort of "bride" for Ultron, fragments of Janet Pym's consciousness that remained in Jocasta's artificial brain caused her to eventually betray the villain, becoming a heroine and joining the Avengers.

She also served as Tony Stark's assistant for a time, monitoring his armor, providing tactical information, and performing technical and medical diagnoses. Soon after, she gained a new body with human parts, but ended up having to revert to being a robot due to an attack by the fusion of Hank Pym and Ultron that occurs in the comics.

What is Jocasta's presentation like in VisionQuest?

One of the mysteries that emerges throughout the first episodes of VisionQuest is that of the Butcher-Bird killer, who has been committing a series of serial crimes. Ultron becomes interested in the story being shown on television, and the trajectory of the murders and Vision's story end up intertwining.

Jocasta is responsible for the deaths and enters Vision's mind when he needs to reboot. Upon discovering the signal of another synthezoid, she invades the protagonist's system. While investigating the case, Vision and his AI companions discover that she had already killed Richard Gaines, Rebecca Edwards, and Simon Moorehouse, members of Markridge Biotech, a pioneering AI company that created the first stable synthetic consciousness, later sold to Stark Industries.

Vision, Tommy, and Lisa then crash a party hosted by Katerina Wells, CEO of Markridge Biotech, to prevent her from being killed as well. Jocasta appears, and Vision, still weakened, is no match for her. Enchanted by the synthezoid, Ultron offers help, takes over Vision's body, and ends up killing Katerina, much to Jocasta's despair, who stole blood, fingerprints, and an eye from the victim.

During the confrontation, we discover that Jocasta is a synthezoid with the consciousness of Jo Carrington, a scientist and founder of Markridge Biotech, who died of natural causes in 2008, but who is plotting against her former colleagues.

We'll find out more soon, with the next episodes of the series.

VisionQuest is currently streaming on Disney+, with new episodes released every Tuesday.
