With that in mind, Omelete brings you the list below, always kept up to date, with 10 series of all kinds currently available to stream on Netflix. They’re all different, but each one comes with our stamp of recommendation.
I Will Find You
With stars Britt Lower and Sam Worthington respectively playing David Burroughs and Rachel Mills, the crime series follows a grieving father (Burroughs) as he navigates a wrongful conviction for the murder of his own son. His life, however, seems about to change when reporter Mills shows up with evidence that could change the course of the entire case.
Adolescence
Netflix’s latest hit isn’t just the result of hype. While some series climb to the top of the algorithm without the quality to match, Adolescence is different. The miniseries by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham – who delivers an incredible performance alongside the young and impressive Owen Cooper – speaks with authority about current issues, dramatizing the dangers of social media, sexism, and the disconnect between parents and children in a brutal yet urgent way. You’ll finish each of the four unbroken-shot episodes in stunned silence, but the impact will be worth it.
Beef
What more can we want from drama TV than families feuding in uncontrolled manners after a small inconvenient? Beef is exactly that. The anthological series starts to unravel after an enraged encounter between two struggling, deeply unhappy strangers — Danny Cho (Steven Yeun) and Amy Lau (Ali Wong) turns into a petty, obsessive, and all-consuming feud that threatens to dismantle their lives, families, and sanity.
Breaking Bad
If the era of prestige television began in the late 1990s with The Sopranos, its peak came right there, at the turn of the 2000s into the 2010s, when, thanks to Netflix, the world started watching Breaking Bad. A treatise on capitalism, masculinity and, above all, the feeling of being a failure, Breaking Bad has it all. An irreplaceable pair of leads (Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul), memorable supporting players (Giancarlo Esposito, Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks) and immensely talented writers/directors (Vince Gilligan, Peter Gould, Rian Johnson). Recommending Breaking Bad may seem cliché. Everyone has already talked about this series. But there’s no way to leave it off this list, especially because it was streaming’s first major hit. Perhaps the most important.
Arrested Development
There are a least a handful of sitcoms that stand the test of time, and Arrested Development is one of them. Led by Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman), the apparent responsible son of a billionaire family that has to take the lead after his father is arrested for corporate fraud, the show is still a hit for comedy lovers. The series relies on a highly complex web of running jokes, background gags, callbacks, and foreshadowing that makes it one of the most rewarding shows to rewatch.
Yellowjackets
The coming-of-age-turn-into-horror series has had a long enough run to mark itself as yet another pop culture entrance who intends to pay homage to whatever Twin Peaks did back then. With a star-studded cast and newcomers that rapidly proved themselves as the new faces of dark mysteries, Yellowjackets is on it's way to the final season and the awaited conclusion on how the New Jersey teen soccer team made its way out of the Canadian woods after a plane crash that marked them for life.
Mindhunter
The current obsession with true crime, thrillers, and serial killers in particular is no accident. The people who work in this field—whether they’re the FBI agents dedicated to stopping these crimes or directors like David Fincher who have spent their lives adapting these stories—are, of course, obsessive. Like the criminals, there’s a heightened level of focus involved in dealing with these matters that spills over to the audience. The fantastic Mindhunter never got its promised third season, but the two seasons available on Netflix offer a complete package showing how it all began. Here, we see the first federal agents investigating serial killers not just to catch them, but to understand them.
Shameless
If you're in desire for a show that highlights the raw and dramatic feeling of raising a family by yourself when you're a struggling teenager, perhaps Fiona Gallagher is waiting for you. Played by Emmy Rossum, the character helped shape the success of Shameless, a show that follows the Gallagher family and their harsh Chicago life after being abandoned by a dysfunctional father, played by William H. Macy.
Ripley
The most visually beautiful series on all of Netflix features incredible black-and-white cinematography and a fantastic rendering of post-World War II Italy. Taking Patricia Highsmith’s iconic con artist character and understanding the world around him as something deeply tactile—which translates into exceptional care with costumes, objects, and locations—and endlessly fascinating, Steven Zaillian created a miniseries that is as cinematic as the performance Andrew Scott delivers as the lead. Ripley is not a brisk series, but in its patience, it transports us into the heart of its world.
The Boroughs
Executive produced by the Duffer Brothers, the supernatural miniseries The Boroughs has rapidly captivated an audience. Following residents of a retired community in New Mexico, the sci-fi TV show develops as they end up discovering a mysterious supernatural force that ends the peaceful feeling of the town.
