According to an exclusive report from Deadline, actress Sophie Nélisse (Yellowjackets, Heated Rivalry) has been cast in the lead role of the Netflix adaptation of the novel by Carley Fortune, titled This Summer Will Be Different.
Filming for the series will take place in Prince Edward Island and Toronto later this summer. The production, created and helmed by Dane Clark and Linsey Stewart, is a romance set over multiple summers on Prince Edward Island.
The story follows Lucy, a woman in her twenties experiencing her first true love with her best friend’s brother – the last person she should fall for.
Sophie Nélisse will play Lucy, one of the story’s three main characters, alongside Bridget and Felix, Bridget’s brother. Fortune’s book, released in 2024, became a New York Times bestseller after selling more than 4 million copies and was translated into 30 languages.
The series is produced by Jennifer Kawaja and Elise Cousineau (Sphere Media), with Clark, Stewart, and Fortune herself serving as executive producers.
