In its second-quarter earnings report, released Thursday (16), Netflix revealed that approximately 300 titles in its catalog used generative artificial intelligence at some stage of production throughout 2026. The technology was applied across every phase, from conception and pre-visualization to post-production and release.

The company highlighted the use of the tool in productions such as the Indian sports thriller series Glory, the Brazilian soccer miniseries Brasil '70: The Third Star and the docuseries The American Experiment, focused on the American Revolution.

According to Netflix, AI helped create "highly complex sequences", including battle scenes and expanded crowds. The company said that, in some cases, "productions would have had to leave out key scenes and sequences without the technology".

Netflix also said that the use of AI made it possible to deliver "higher-quality results more quickly and at a lower cost than traditional methods."

During the earnings call, co-CEO Ted Sarandos cited 17 minutes of AI-enhanced content in The American Experiment, produced "twice as fast and at half the cost of previous options".

He stressed that AI does not replace creators: "Movies are made by people who make movies. AI gives them better tools to make them even better". In March, Netflix acquired Ben Affleck's AI company, InterPositive, to provide tools for filmmakers. Sarandos said the tool helps creators use their own production materials to "make the movie they are making better" – without replacing writers, actors, or technical crews.
