According to Deadline, Disney has ordered a pilot episode for a reboot of The Mickey Mouse Club, the show that introduced some of the biggest names in global entertainment. The new version is being developed for Disney+ and will feature a new generation of Mouseketeers, repeating the formula that helped launch the careers of Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling and Keri Russell.
Production begins later this month in Los Angeles and will be led by Fulwell Entertainment, the company behind The Kardashians. The pilot episode will bring together 11 young talents, including Brooklynn Pitts (Camp Rock 3), Erianthe Akaata (Young Rock) and Yonas Kibreab (Elio). According to Disney, the new show will serve as a showcase for artists of the next generation, with a focus on music, performances and self-expression.
Created by Walt Disney, the long-running show The Mickey Mouse Club premiered on TV in 1955 and became one of the entertainment industry’s greatest talent incubators. The show got a new version between 1977 and 1979, returned to Disney Channel in 1989 and, over the decades, introduced artists who went on to become major stars in Hollywood and music.
