According to exclusive information from Deadline, Netflix is expanding the universe of The Lincoln Lawyer with a spin-off starring Cobie Smulders.
The platform has ordered the project’s script, which revolves around Artemisia Finch, Mickey Haller’s half-sister, introduced in the fourth season and promoted to series regular in the fifth. The production still depends on finalizing contracts with those involved.
The character Emi does not exist in Michael Connelly’s books and was created to make up for the absence of Harry Bosch, Mickey’s half-brother, whose rights belong to Amazon. In the still-unreleased fifth season, Emi appears to ask for help with a wrongful imprisonment case. The idea is for the sister to get a spin-off similar to what Bosch already has on Prime Video.
The script was written by Ted Humphrey, Dailyn Rodriguez and Matthew J. Lieberman, the same executive producers behind the original series. The franchise’s success justifies the move: the series has racked up 171 million views since 2023 and spent 29 weeks in the global Top 10.
The spin-off is expected to be filmed in Los Angeles, if it qualifies for the state’s tax incentives.
