Game of Thrones' Kit Harington Joins 'Harry Potter' Season 2

Kit Harington, known for playing Jon Snow in Game of Thrones, has joined the cast of season 2 of Harry Potter. According to Deadline, the actor will take on the role of Gilderoy Lockhart, replacing Nicholas Hoult, who left the production due to scheduling conflicts.

The casting marks a shake-up in the lineup, but it’s worth noting that Harington already has a connection to the character: he voiced Lockhart in the full-cast Harry Potter audiobook released last year.

In the story, Lockhart is a vain wizard obsessed with fame who takes on the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts during the events of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

The second season will begin filming in the Northern Hemisphere fall, which starts in September.

The upcoming HBO Max series is set to premiere at Christmas 2026 with eight episodes in its first season, adapting The Philosopher’s Stone. Filming began last summer, and the production has already confirmed that the story will not be told solely from Harry’s point of view.

The confirmed cast includes Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter (a role played by Daniel Radcliffe in theaters), Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger (played by Emma Watson in the films), and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley (originally portrayed by Rupert Grint).

Among the new additions, John Lithgow will play Albus Dumbledore and will have scenes with Nicolas Flamel. The series will also bring back History of Magic classes with Professor Binns, played by Richard Durden, as well as move up the introduction of Lucius Malfoy, who will be played by Johnny Flynn.
