Prime Video has announced plans to invest more than $2 billion in Latin America between 2027 and 2030. This unprecedented amount will go toward producing original content, acquiring local titles, and securing sports broadcasting rights in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and Chile. The announcement was made this Thursday (20) during the Prime Video Presents Latin America event in Mexico City.

According to the platform, the number of local original productions will more than double by 2030 compared to 2026. The company also revealed more than 25 new titles slated for 2027 alone, including series, films, reality shows, and unscripted programs.

Prime Video also confirmed some of its upcoming 2026 releases, including the Argentine film Barreda, the third season of Betty La Fea: Más Fea Que Nunca, season 2 of Los Tinelli, the Mexican thriller El Juicio, and the Brazilian documentary Marília Mendonça: Sentimento Louco

Investment in local content

According to Kelly Day, Prime Video's international vice president, the investment aims to capitalize on the growth of audiovisual production in the region without concentrating resources in a single market or genre.

“What is happening in Latin America right now is extraordinary — the talent, the stories, the audience. This is an investment in the entire region, in every way fans engage with Prime Video.”

The platform also intends to expand the presence of Latin American productions in its international catalog. For Javiera Balmaceda, Head of International Originals for Latin America, Canada, and Australia at Amazon MGM Studios, the goal is to turn local stories into productions capable of reaching broader audiences.

“Our job is to find stories that are undeniably local and make them undeniably universal,” she said.

Sports take center stage

The investment also includes an expansion of live sports. According to Prime Video, more than 20 million households in Latin America have watched sports broadcasts on the platform so far in 2026 — a figure that already surpasses the total recorded throughout all of 2025.

The company highlighted the expansion of its NBA deal, which will bring more than 200 games per season to Brazil and Mexico and now also includes Argentina, Colombia, and Chile. In Brazilian soccer, the platform also carries the Copa do Brasil and the Brasileirão Série A.

In Mexico, Prime Video will also be one of the homes of the Mexican National Team, with 38 home matches scheduled over four years starting on September 26.

“The investment we are making is not just in rights: it is in quality, access, and the belief that fans here deserve a world-class experience,” said Gustavo Coelho, Head of Sports Business for Latin America.
