Star Jaafar Jackson has shared a plot update on the sequel to Michael, the Michael Jackson biopic. According to the King of Pop’s nephew, Michael 2 will tackle the child abuse allegations faced by the singer and present his perspective on what happened.
In an interview with GQ Middle East, the actor said that Michael 2 will have the chance to explore issues that were left out of the first film in greater depth. “It’s someone else’s story,” Jaafar said, commenting on previous productions and accounts about the singer. According to him, one of the sequel’s goals is to allow “Michael’s voice to be heard”, especially regarding the events that shaped his life from the 1990s onward.
The first Michael follows the singer’s journey from childhood to the release of the album Bad in 1987. Because of that, the film ends before the first child abuse allegation against Michael Jackson, filed in 1993.
Jaafar also said the sequel will make it possible to show a more personal side of the singer during that period: “No matter everything he went through, how he was treated, what was said about him, he never stopped treating people with kindness. He never stopped believing and wanting to find the good in people… even while shattered, his heart remained the same… I hope that comes through in the second film,” he said.
The production of Michael 2 is close to beginning, but there is still no set release date for the sequel.
