Margaret Qualley and Sabrina Carpenter Join Tom Holland in Fred Astaire's Biopic

According to exclusive information from Deadline, Margaret Qualley and Sabrina Carpenter will star alongside Tom Holland in the Fred Astaire biopic directed by Paul King.

Qualley will play Adele Astaire, Fred's sister and first dance partner, while Carpenter will portray Ginger Rogers, other half of the dancing duo that made Astaire famous in film.

The production has been in development for almost five years, ever since Holland first revealed he would be leading the project. The screenplay is by Steven Levenson and King, based on the book The Astaires: Fred & Adele by Kathleen Riley.

King highlighted the challenge of telling Adele's story, whose work has been lost to time. "Fred left a timeless legacy of dance in film, most famously in his collaborations with Ginger Rogers, while Adele's work has been lost to history. No footage of her dancing has survived," he stated. "The cinematic challenge of bringing these 20th-century icons to life is something I couldn't imagine without Tom, Margaret, and Sabrina by my side."

The production is by Amy Pascal and Rachel O'Connor, with Holland through Billy17, and Ben Holden and Josh Hyams through Lightbulb Pictures. Ava Astaire McKenzie, Fred's daughter, supports the project, and her son, Tyler McKenzie, serves as a consultant and co-producer. "The story of their partnership on and off stage is in good hands," said Ava.
