Camron Jones is responsible for portraying Tupac in the film.
Cynthia Erivo (Wicked) has joined the cast of Snoop, a Universal Pictures biopic about entertainment mogul and music icon Snoop Dogg. The information comes from THR.
In the film, Erivo will play the mother of rapper Tupac Shakur, Afeni Shakur — a former Black Panther activist who had a troubled relationship with her son and who was the inspiration for his hit song "Dear Mama".
The actress joins a cast that already includes Jonathan Daviss, Myles Bullock Be, Lauren London, Camron Jones, Algee Smith, Tre Hale, Laya DeLeon Hayes, Olly Sholotan, Corey Champagne, Jonica Booth, and Swayvo Twain . Filming is currently underway in California, USA.
The production is described by Universal as the "definitive biography of the artist, mogul and gangsta rap icon" . Actor Jonathan Daviss (Outer Banks) plays the rapper, and Craig Brewer directs. The film will incorporate songs from Snoop Dogg's vast catalog, including hits like "Drop it Like It's Hot" , "Gin and Juice" and "What's My Name".
The plot details haven't been confirmed, but the film is the first project from the partnership between Universal and Death Row Pictures, the rapper's production company. Brian Grazer (Imagine Entertainment), producer of 8 Mile, is producing alongside Snoop and Death Row president Sara Ramaker .
Snoop still doesn't have a release date for theaters.
