The role of Wolverine is automatically linked to the name of Australian actor Hugh Jackman in any context in which it is mentioned. The actor has been playing the character for 26 years, having first appeared as the mutant in X-Men: The Movie, in 2000.
But despite the positive reception, initial reactions to Jackman's casting were less affectionate. Up until then, the actor had only participated in two low-budget Australian films and his career was being built in musical theatre. Nothing that the public considered fair to the character.
So, what surprise awaits us in the casting for Wolverine in Jake Schreier's X-Men reboot? According to insider Jeff Sneider, Jeremy Allen White, winner of the 2023 and 2024 Emmy for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for The Bear, has already met with Marvel to discuss the role.
White's height and physique really make sense with how Wolverine is portrayed in the comics, but so far there is no confirmation that he will actually be chosen to play the role in the movies and replace Jackman.
Do you think White would be a good choice for the character?
Everything you need to know about the new X-Men
The movie, directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), is set to premiere on May 5, 2028 and will star Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Inde Navarette as Rogue, Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister, Christopher Abbot as Professor X, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost and Maya Boyd as Storm.
X-Men had a long run in theaters, with films produced by Fox since the early 2000s. An initial trilogy was made, and later the mutant group went through a sort of reboot, with an entirely new cast. In 2019, Fox was acquired by Disney, which has since been paving the way for the characters’ return to the big screen under new leadership.
