SAG-AFTRA Supports Rockstar's 'GTA 6' Employees Unionize Attempt
SAG-AFTRA is asking Rockstar to voluntarily recognize the union and negotiate a fair contract for the company's workers.
SAG-AFTRA announced its support for the attempt to unionize employees at Rockstar Games, the developer of Grand Theft Auto VI. In a social media post (below), the union stated its support for the workers seeking recognition of the Rockstar Game Workers Union (RGWU) and asked the company to voluntarily recognize the organization to begin negotiations for a collective bargaining agreement.
The initiative by Rockstar employees gained momentum in June when workers from UK facilities formally requested voluntary recognition of the union affiliated with the IWGB Game Workers Union. The goal is to create a formal channel for negotiation with the company to discuss labor issues, including pay transparency, working conditions, and the so-called crunch, a period of excessive working hours common in the games industry.
The move comes after the dismissal of dozens of Rockstar employees in 2025, a case that generated accusations of an attempt to weaken the union organization. The company, in turn, denied that the dismissals were related to union activities and stated that the employees were dismissed for sharing confidential information about company projects.
