During a hearing involving the layoff of 34 employees from Rockstar Games, the company revealed that it faced frequent security issues during the development of Grand Theft Auto VI. Among the incidents were hackers trying to extort the studio with leak threats, and even people using drones to try to film inside the company’s buildings in search of footage of the game.
According to information presented during the case, Rockstar had to adopt specific measures to stop the drones from flying. The company even installed privacy film on the windows to prevent images of still-in-development versions of GTA VI from being captured.
These revelations came during the final stage of a labor court case examining the dismissal of 34 Rockstar employees last year. The company claims the terminations happened due to “serious misconduct,” while the workers argue the firings were part of an attempt to prevent unionization and that they were not given due process.
