VisionQuest May Introduce a New Human Torch; Here’s What We Know

VisionQuest, Marvel Studios’ new series for Disney+, may finally introduce Jim Hammond, the original Human Torch, into the MCU. The possibility gained traction after artwork displayed at the production’s booth at D23 showed a mysterious figure engulfed in flames. Check it out below.

The character’s identity has not been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios. However, the image caught fans’ attention and sparked rumors that the figure could be Hammond, the first Human Torch in Marvel history.

In the comics, Jim Hammond is an android created by Professor Phineas Horton, capable of generating and controlling flames. The character made his debut in 1939 and is considered the first hero to use the Human Torch name—decades before Johnny Storm, the Human Torch of the Fantastic Four.

The possible appearance may also be connected to a scene in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). During the 1943 Stark Expo, a mysterious humanoid figure is presented inside a capsule as the “Synthetic Man.” Although the film does not officially identify the character as Jim Hammond, the sequence is considered a reference to the comic book hero.

If the theory proves true, VisionQuest could turn a reference made 15 years ago into Hammond’s full-fledged appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Vision Quest, the series centered on Vision, will feature only human forms for its robotic characters, including the protagonist played by Paul Bettany and the villain Ultron. The decision was made by the producers to save on visual effects costs.

Vision Quest was created by Terry Matalas, who also serves as showrunner, producer, and director. Paul Bettany returns as the title character and is joined by returning Marvel actors: James Spader as Ultron and Faran Tahir as Raza. Emily Hampshire will play the sophisticated artificial intelligence E.D.I.T.H. (Even Dead I'm The Hero ), Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) augmented reality security and defense system. T'nia Miller will portray Jocasta, Todd Stashwick will play Paladin, and Orla Brady will be F.R.I.D.A.Y.

Vision Quest premieres on October 14 on Disney+ as part of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
