Disney+ Drops New 'Power Rangers' Live-Action Series

The new live-action Power Rangers series is no longer moving forward at Disney+. According to Deadline, the platform decided to halt development on the project before production began.

The decision was reportedly driven by the high investment required to produce a superhero series based on an intellectual property that does not belong to Disney. The Power Rangers brand is controlled by Hasbro, which was responsible for producing the project. The information was also confirmed by TheWrap, which attributed the shutdown to business reasons.

Announced in March 2025, the series was set to be written and overseen by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, the duo behind Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The production would also involve 20th Television and aimed to reinvent the franchise for a new generation without leaving behind the audience that has followed the heroes since the 1990s.

The project remained in development for about a year and a half, but it never received the green light for filming. Because of that, although it is being treated as a cancellation, the show never officially reached the production stage.

This is yet another failed attempt to bring the Rangers back to television. Before the talks with Disney+, Hasbro was developing another shared universe of films and series from the franchise for Netflix, under the leadership of Jonathan Entwistle and Jenny Klein. Those plans were also ultimately shelved.

So far, Hasbro has not announced whether it will seek a new platform or creative team for the project.
