Tom Hanks Replaced in 'The Secret of Secrets', Netflix’s Dan Brown Adaptation

The Secret of Secrets, the latest book by Dan Brown, is being turned into a Netflix series and has already found its lead. Brown will serve as one of the production’s co-writers alongside Carlton Cuse, of Lost, and Morgan Spector, from The Gilded Age and Homeland, will play the new Robert Langdon.

The actor takes over the role previously played by Tom Hanks in the film adaptations of The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, and Inferno. The Lost Symbol was also adapted for TV, with Ashley Zuckerman as the symbologist.

Dan Brown is the acclaimed author of books such as The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, which have already been made into films. In addition, Cuse successfully adapted another bestselling thriller novel series for TV that also spawned a feature film franchise: Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan.

According to Deadline, the series is not expected to keep the same title as the book, but a new title has yet to be announced. The cast and the rest of the creative team will also be revealed later.

In the book, symbologist Robert Langdon races against ancient forces and the clock to rescue a missing scientist and her groundbreaking manuscript, whose discoveries have the power to forever change humanity’s understanding of the mind. The series adaptation will blend futuristic science with mystical tradition, delivering the pulse-pounding suspense and international intrigue that made Langdon’s stories a global phenomenon.

Brown himself considers it “by far the most intricately plotted and ambitious book I’ve ever written, and I also think it’s the most fun.”

For now, the new series does not yet have a release date.
