Thirty years after the end of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Will Smith will have the beginning of his career recounted in a new production. According to Deadline , the star is producing, under his Westbrook Studios label, a series focused on his long-standing partnership with DJ Jazzy Jeff.
Titled 215, the new series is based on Smith's early life and his rise, alongside DJ Jazzy Jeff, as one of the first hip-hop artists to achieve worldwide success. The plot follows a quick-witted teenage rapper, the DJ who is his musical other half, and the friends who helped propel that dream.
Together, they seek a record deal, money, and a life-changing opportunity as Philadelphia's hip-hop scene takes off. Along the way, they grapple with record label meetings, loyalty to their hometown, sudden fame, and the friendships that hold them together—or nearly break them apart.
The duo DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince (stage name used by Will Smith in his music career) were responsible for hits such as "Parents Just Don't Understand" (1989) and "Summertime" (1991), selling over 5 million records.
This is the latest fictional series based on Smith's early life; Bel-Air, a reimagining of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, has four seasons available on Peacock.
