Chris Colfer Reveals If He Would Say Yes to a 'Glee' Reboot
"But I do know that Glee fans would probably come after me with pitchforks and jazz hands if I said no"
Chris Colfer might be trying to overcome his Glee distress for the reboot. In an interview with Bustle, the actor-writer explained that he still hasn't heard "absolutely nothing" from Ryan Murphy himself, but he understands that the gleeks out there wouldn't be too happy if he passed on the chance to play Kurt Hummel one more time.
"I know nothing and have heard absolutely nothing. I wish I did", he said. "It was a really tough show to do, and it would be really hard to do it now that Naya [Rivera] is gone", said Colfer, reminiscing his late coworker, who tragically passed away from an accidental drowning in 2020, at California.
"But I do know that Glee fans would probably come after me with pitchforks and jazz hands if I said no. So I don’t know, but hopefully I’ll have more information and I can actually think about it. [...]
He added that the Glee cast still try to talk "almost every single day", mostly exchanging "funny memes and pictures of people's kids". Colfer and Amber Riley, who played Mercedes Jones, recently went to support Harry Shum Jr. at Dancing With The Stars: "I was so happy to see Harry shine. He is one of the greatest people in the world, and I’m over the moon that he’s getting to have this moment", the writer said.
"One of the secrets of Glee’s success was that so many kids identified with the characters and put themselves in that world, because for the first time, they saw themselves represented on TV. There was a beautiful connection with our audience, and that probably is why people keep writing stories about those characters and putting their own emotions into that world."
The potential Glee revival still has a long path to cross, with rumors of a few actors not returning Murphy's calls and only the first script draft being written. Still, the showrunner isn't giving up on reuniting the original cast: "I vowed to myself that I wanted to write a couple of them to see what people think. Particularly the cast, because we were very close when we were making it", said the director.
