Television producer Ryan Murphy is officially taking on horror’s most enduring figure with Brides of Blood, an upcoming series set to reimagine the classic mythology of Bram Stoker's Dracula.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Murphy revealed that the project draws directly from personal inspiration, serving as a tribute to his late grandmother and their shared affection for horror cinema.

"I'm making a vampire tale called Brides of Blood, so I can pay homage to my grandmother and what she loved—what we loved together," Murphy said, noting that her fondness for both musicals and gothic horror shaped his early creative outlook. Production is set to start later this year.

The title strongly indicates a narrative focus on the Brides of Dracula, a trio of siren-like vampires who inhabit Count Dracula's Transylvanian castle in Stoker's original 1897 novel. While the characters appeared in Hammer Film Productions' 1960 feature The Brides of Dracula, they have rarely received dedicated narrative focus in modern adaptations compared to the titular Count. Murphy's series aims to place these figures at the center of the story.

Principal photography is scheduled to begin this December in Europe, building on details Murphy previously disclosed to Bloody Disgusting. "I’ve always wanted to do a vampire story and I always wondered why nobody has made a show about these characters I love," Murphy stated regarding the project's origins.

While Murphy previously integrated vampire-like elements into American Horror Story, Brides of Blood will mark his first standalone series dedicated entirely to vampire lore. He's also currently writing the first scripts for a potential Glee reboot, with several actors of the original cast still unsure about whether to join the production.
