Jason Sudeikis Wants 'Ted Lasso' Season 4 to Make Women's Soccer More Popular
Omelete spoke with the cast of the series about the fourth season
The fourth season of Ted Lasso premiered this Wednesday (5) on Apple TV and brings a fresh new look to the soccer series starring Jason Sudeikis. This time, the title character is tasked with leading AFC Richmond’s women’s team, signaling major new challenges for the protagonist—much like the ones real-life female athletes face every day.
Omelete spoke exclusively with Sudeikis, Tanya Reynolds, and Brendan Hunt about the show’s new season, and we asked what they expect the impact of AFC Richmond’s women’s team creation will be on audiences. Could this season be as educational as it is entertaining for viewers who aren’t familiar with women’s soccer?
“I hope it’s entertaining. That’s the priority. If someone discovers that, you know, women’s soccer exists, I think that’s cool, that’s a good thing. It could help in that sense. But yeah, I think it’s mainly about entertaining people; and if they learn something along the way, then that’s a happy coincidence,” Sudeikis replied.
Brendan Hunt added, using the World Cup as an example for American audiences: “We’ve noticed, through anecdotal reports, that at least some Americans who didn’t care about soccer before watching our series ended up tuning in to the World Cup and getting interested in the sport in a way they didn’t expect. And that’s just anecdotal; I don’t have scientific data to prove it. But if even a little of that could benefit women’s soccer, that would be really great,” he said.
