David Fincher’s 'Squid Game' Version No Longer Expected to Happen, Report Says

According to The Playlist, Netflix is no longer moving forward with the development of Heckler, the American spin-off of Squid Game that was set to be directed by David Fincher.

The project, which had been in development for years, had a script by Dennis Kelly (creator of the British series Utopia) and was set to be produced in the United Kingdom. 

The decision to cancel reflects a shift in the platform's strategy: instead of investing in a single American version, Netflix is now reportedly more interested in exploring adaptations of the Korean phenomenon for specific markets, such as France or Norway – although no regional version has been confirmed.

The news comes after Cate Blanchett appeared at the end of the original series as an American recruiter in Los Angeles, sparking speculation about her possible involvement in the spin-off.

However, sources indicate that the project was not developed with the actress in mind, and she was never involved.
