'Mary Poppins' TV Series Being Developed With Ambitious Plans
Tom Winchester is behind the adaptation who might expand the word of author P.L. Travers
According to Deadline, a new Mary Poppins television series is currently being developed by Tom Winchester, who also produced FX's Shōgun.
The untitled series is backed by Pure Fiction Television, an independent production company supported by Heartstopper's See-Saw Films.
Although Winchester is focusing on P.L. Travers' original Mary Poppins novels to create a larger world, conversations with Disney, responsible for the worldwide famous 1960's adaptation with Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, aren't completely off the table. As Deadline pointed out, everything's at a pitch stage as of now, and Winchester appears to be talking with "top level" Disney showrunners.
Winchester is currently working on a series adaptation of the John Rain books for Apple TV.
