New Series from 'Black Mirror' Creator Gets Title, Cast and More

Charlie Brooker's new Netflix series has been given a title and cast. Called Blackmere, the production was announced this Thursday during the platform's upfronts event in London, with Rory Kinnear joining the team.

Kinnear, known for The Diplomat and Black Mirror itself , joins Paddy Considine, Georgina Campbell, and Lena Headey in producing a six-episode series, scheduled for early 2027. The synopsis describes the show as "an absurd comedy disguised as an incredibly serious police thriller."

The plot follows the tormented detective John Blackmere, played by Considine, who leaves the rainy town of Bleakford in northern England for London to avenge the death of his partner and capture a ritualistic serial killer before the victims run out. The official description summarizes: "Contains blood and grim faces."

Brooker created and wrote the series, with additional scripts by Ben Caudell, Jason Hazeley, Emer Kenny, Daniel Maier, and Joel Morris, plus extra material by Victoria Asare Arche. Brooker, Jessica Rhoades, and Annabel Jones are executive producers , with Mark Kinsella as co-executive producer and Richard Webb producing. Al Campbell directs.

Blackmere was announced last year as "Charlie Brooker's Untitled Project." The creator celebrated the announcement with his characteristic humor. "I'm very excited to say these words for the press release. I've dreamed of providing a quote since I was a young fetus, and now here I am doing it," he said.
