Netflix Announces 'Arrivals', New Series in the 'Manifest' Universe

Attention, passengers: about three years after its ending, Manifest is coming back. Netflix announced this Friday (28) the development of Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery, a spin-off that will take the series’ universe into a new sci-fi story. And the date of the announcement couldn’t be more fitting: the platform chose today exactly, August 28, as a reference to the famous Flight 828, the centerpiece of the original plot. The first page of the script was posted on social media and includes the production’s logo; check it out below:

The new series will once again have Jeff Rake, creator and showrunner of Manifest, at the helm. He will be joined by Margaret Easley and Laura Putney, who worked on the original series and now step in as co-creators and co-showrunners of Arrivals. Warner Bros. Television will be responsible for the production.

What will Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery be about?

This time, the story begins when a mysterious plane crashes in Denver. The passengers survive, but they can’t remember who they are, where they came from, or why they were on board. A young social worker and a rookie Homeland Security agent join the newcomers to try to stop a catastrophe that threatens humanity.

In the process, however, they discover that everyone is connected to the very mystery they are trying to solve. The premise therefore keeps the mix of science fiction, riddles, and unexplained events that defined Manifest, but with new characters and a standalone story.

There is still no premiere date set for Arrivals.

The original series premiered on NBC in 2018 and followed the passengers of Flight 828, which disappeared during a trip and returned five and a half years later, without anyone on board having aged. The cast includes Melissa Roxburgh, Josh Dallas, Athena Karkanis, JR Ramirez, Luna Blaise, Jack Messina, Parveen Kaur, Matt Long, and Holly Taylor.

Canceled by the network after three seasons, the production was rescued by Netflix, which released its fourth and final season in two parts, wrapping up the story in June 2023.

According to Netflix, the four seasons of Manifest have already surpassed 130 million views on the platform since the first half of 2023. The fourth season also spent nine weeks in the global Top 10 for English-language series and reached No. 1 in more than 90 tracked countries.
