Amazon MGM Studios has announced the production of Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone, a mystery series with a dark comedy tone based on the bestselling novel by Benjamin Stevenson. Actor Penn Badgley (You, Gossip Girl) will star as Ern Cunningham, while David Hemingson (The Holdovers) will serve as showrunner and executive producer.
The story is set in the mountains of Vermont, where mystery expert Ern Cunningham attends a family reunion to welcome his brother Michael, who has just been released from prison—the very brother Ern helped convict.
When a frozen body turns up and a snowstorm cuts everyone off at the location, the deaths begin to pile up. The series title reflects the premise: everyone in Ern’s family has killed someone, whether by accident or not.
Stevenson’s book, published in 2022, is the first in the Ernest Cunningham Mysteries series, which has already sold more than 1 million copies across 29 territories. The fifth book in the series, Everyone in This Bank Is a Thief, was released in March.
Badgley, known for his role as killer Joe Goldberg in You, will also star in the romantic comedy You Deserve Each Other for Amazon. Hemingson, who was Oscar-nominated for his screenplay for The Holdovers, also has the series Whiskey Cavalier on his résumé.
