Exclusive 'Lanterns' Scenes Were Shown at SDCC; Find Out Everything

The Lanterns panel at SDCC, held this Friday (24), unveiled three exclusive scenes from DC’s new series. Omelete was there and got to see the first official scenes of duo Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) shown to the audience. Check out the description of each scene below: 

Scene 1: Hal grabs John, and lets the car fall off the cliff. 

Scene 2: Hal interrogates a suspect he believes is a person of interest and tests his knowledge of recent pop culture by asking which school Harry Potter attended.

Scene 3: John is on a military plane, preparing to jump for a nighttime sniper mission—likely a flashback to his time with the Marines. The plane's door opens; it is night, and a storm is raging. Even so, he decides to jump and faces a difficult landing.

The series follows a young John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and a veteran Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) caught up in a dark, Earth-bound mystery as they investigate a murder in the heart of the U.S. It is speculated that the victim will be a member of the Green Lantern Corps, a kind of intergalactic police force, and that this is how Stewart will receive the ring that gives members of the group the power to create objects made of green light.

The series cast also includes Garrett Dillahunt (No Country for Old Men), Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire), Cary Chrisopher (Weapons) and Paula Patton (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol), as well as Ulrich Thomsen as the villain Sinestro. 

Nathan Fillion will appear as Guy Gardner, one of the Green Lanterns—a role he has already played on the big screen in Superman. With eight episodes confirmed, the production is led by Damon Lindelof (Lost, Watchmen), Chris Mundy (Ozark) and Tom King.

Lanterns premieres on August 16, 2026 on HBO and HBO Max.
