'Lanterns' Actor Points Out Differences Between Guy Gardner and John Stewart

Nathan Fillion had previously pointed out that Guy Gardner has a more intense relationship with the Green Lantern symbol and status than John Stewart (Aaron Pierre). Now, the actor has explained how this characteristic also manifests in the character's public persona in Lanterns.

In an interview with Variety, Fillion stated that Guy is concerned with brands, sponsorships, and trends, in addition to having financial goals and retirement plans. For the actor, this pursuit of status goes beyond simply holding the position of Green Lantern: "He wants to be not just the Green Lantern, but a famous Green Lantern."

Guy's relationship with his own image also appears in the series, which presents the character associated with an advertisement for a fictional brand. According to Fillion, "I think he understands TikTok, he understands trends. I think he's done more than one or two dances."

The series follows a young John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and a veteran Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) as they become embroiled in a dark, earthly mystery while investigating a murder in the heart of the USA. It's speculated that the murder victim is a member of the Green Lantern Corps, a kind of galactic police force, and that's how Stewart will acquire the ring that grants members of the group the power to create objects made of green light.

The series cast also includes Garrett Dillahunt (No Country for Old Men), Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire), Cary Christopher (Weapons), and Paula Patton (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol), as well as Ulrich Thomsen as the villain Sinestro.
