Prime Video in Talks to Acquire Broadcast Rights For the Emmy Awards
After the end of its agreement with ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC, the Emmy Awards may leave broadcast television for the first time in its history.

Prime Video is in talks with the Television Academy to take over broadcasting rights for the Emmy Awards . According to sources cited by The Hollywood Reporter, a potential deal would see the awards ceremony leave broadcast television for the first time since its inception. The Academy confirmed it is in discussions about the future of the broadcast, but has not yet finalized any contract.
The negotiation comes after the end of the eight-year agreement between the Academy and the four major American networks - ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC - which ended with the airing of the recent 78th Emmy Awards on NBC on September 14th. Since the mid-1990s, the ceremony had been alternating between these four networks.
It's worth highlighting that Amazon Prime Video already has experience with major live events. The platform has been broadcasting the Academy of Country Music Awards since 2021 and also holds sports rights to competitions such as the NFL, NBA, WNBA, and NASCAR.
The potential change also comes amid a migration of major awards shows to streaming. The Oscars, for example, will leave ABC and be streamed on YouTube starting in 2029, in a five-year deal . Meanwhile, the Grammys will switch from CBS to ABC in 2027, with simultaneous streaming on Hulu and Disney+ .
