Actress Jenna Ortega is intentionally distancing herself from industry metrics and public commentary while preparing to step away from television following Netflix’s Wednesday.

In a cover story for Vogue, Ortega revealed she abstains from reading reviews, watching her own films, or checking box office updates. She noted that consuming public reception risks inducing anxiety, while tracking earnings reduces creative work to "a numbers thing."

Ortega has also significantly scaled back her social media presence, citing an influx of "garbage AI" and an overemphasis on self-image. Following a recent phone malfunction, she chose to leave the device unrepaired for days, navigating via memorized desktop maps and scheduling fixed meeting times without digital tools.

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Ortega—who began her screen career at age nine on Jane the Virgin—confirmed plans to take a prolonged break from television after Wednesday completes its run.

"I think after Wednesday, I’ll probably be off the TV for a while," Ortega said. "I was bouncing from show to show as a kid and I want to leave time for new things."
