Jay-Z is getting an eight-episode documentary series on MUBI. The platform has acquired the international rights to JAŸ-Z In 8, a production that brings together the rapper and producer Rick Rubin for a series of conversations about music, creativity, and the journey of one of hip-hop’s biggest names. Directed by Rick Rubin and executive produced by Jay-Z himself, whose birth name is Shawn Carter, JAŸ-Z In 8 follows candid conversations between the two artists and dives into the rapper’s creative process. Throughout the episodes, Jay-Z revisits his lyrics, explains how he writes his songs, and connects his work to childhood experiences and the events that shaped his life and career. The series was filmed over two days in Paris, with cinematography by Bradford Young (Selma).

The first two episodes premiere on MUBI on September 19, with two new chapters released on Saturdays until the finale on October 10. In the United States, the series will air on HBO Max.
