HBO announced on Tuesday (27) another round of casting for its Harry Potter series, which premieres this Christmas on the channel and on HBO Max. This time, it was the protagonist's parents' turn: James and Lily Potter will be played, respectively, by Jasper Talbot and Hannah Chinn.
In addition, Charles Weasley, Ron and Ginny's older brother, has also been cast. The role will be played by Harry Gilby, who portrayed J.R.R. Tolkien during his youth in the biopic of the author of The Lord of the Rings.
The timing of the casting suggests they may not appear in the first season of the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, which premieres in two months. Since filming for the second season, expected in 2027, is already underway, it's possible the characters will make their debut next year.
Everything you need to know about Harry Potter
The upcoming HBO Max series is scheduled to premiere at Christmas 2026 with eight episodes in its first season. Filming began last summer, and the production has already confirmed that the story will not be told solely from Harry's point of view.
The confirmed cast includes Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
John Lithgow will play Albus Dumbledore. The series will also bring back History of Magic classes with Professor Binns, played by Richard Durden, and will foreshadow the introduction of Lucius Malfoy, who will be played by Johnny Flynn.
The series premieres this Christmas on HBO Max.
