James Spader Reveals Ultron is Trapped in Vision’s Mind Since 'Age of Ultron'

In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes TV, James Spader revealed that Ultron had been present in Vision’s (Paul Bettany) mind since his "death" in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and explained how that happened.

“He’s had access to the internet, television, history, and has just been absorbing all of it and painting,” the actor explained. The series will likely reveal why Ultron didn’t awaken and try to take over Vision, or whatever scheme the antagonist may have had.

Vision Quest, the series dedicated to Vision, will feature only human versions of its robotic characters, including the protagonist played by Paul Bettany and the villain Ultron. The decision was made by the producers to save on visual effects costs.

Vision Quest was created by Terry Matalas, who also serves as showrunner, producer, and director. Paul Bettany returns as the title character and is joined by returning Marvel actors: James Spader as Ultron and Faran Tahir as Raza. Emily Hampshire will play the sophisticated artificial intelligence E.D.I.T.H. (Even Dead I'm The Hero) Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) augmented reality security and defense system. T'nia Miller will portray Jocasta, Todd Stashwick will play Paladin, and Orla Brady will be Friday.

Vision Quest premieres on October 14 on Disney+ as part of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
