The Rock Underwent Five Hours of Makeup to Play Elderly Man

Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, spoke to Deadline at D23 about the process of playing Chicken Man, his character in Lizard Music. The protagonist is already 70 years old, and the makeup can take up to five hours, according to Johnson.

"We're working with Kazu Hiro, who is a Hollywood legend. He was also nominated [for the Oscar] for The Smashing Machine, for our prosthetics, and he's helping me transform," he explained.

In the same conversation, The Rock also took the opportunity to praise Benny Safdie, who will be by his side once again: "We're in our second week and it's already an unbelievable experience [...] I love Benny, he's one of my best friends and a great collaborator, and I can't wait for you all to see it," he added.

Safdie, it's worth remembering, directed The Smashing Machine, which casts The Rock as a UFC star. In Lizard Music, Johnson plays a man who discovers an island filled with sentient lizards — they have their own TV network, a complex society, and, of course, music.

Lizard Music is being produced under the banner of Amazon MGM Studios and does not yet have a release date.
