Universal revealed this Friday (21) the date when The Odyssey will arrive for digital rental and purchase on platforms, becoming available starting November 17. It was also announced that the film will be released on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray the same day.
The digital release comes four months after Nolan’s nearly three-hour epic premiered exclusively in theaters, marking a substantially longer theatrical window than that of most major studio releases.
Nolan and Universal took a similar approach with Oppenheimer, which remained in theaters for 123 days before arriving on premium video-on-demand and physical media in November 2023.
Everything you need to know about The Odyssey
Directed by Christopher Nolan, the film is yet another adaptation of Homer’s classic heroic poem, a continuation of The Iliad that tells the story of Odysseus, trying for 10 years to return home to Ithaca after victory in the Trojan War. Enraged, the god of the seas, Poseidon, does everything he can to prevent him from returning to his wife, Penelope.
Matt Damon plays Odysseus. Anne Hathaway plays the character’s wife, Penelope. Tom Holland plays Telemachus, Ulysses’ son, with Zendaya playing the goddess Athena, Charlize Theron as Calypso, Benny Safdie as Agamemnon, and Lupita Nyong'o as Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra — or Clitemnestra — Agamemnon’s wife.
The Odyssey is already in theaters.
