Stephen Graham Confirmed in 'Heat 2' Sequel by Michael Mann

Variety has exclusively confirmed that Stephen Graham has officially been cast in Heat 2, the sequel to the 1995 crime classic directed by Michael Mann. The film will be produced by Amazon MGM Studios and will have a script by Mann himself, based on the novel of the same name written by him and Meg Gardiner.

If the other agreements already reported end up seeing the light of day, Graham will share the cast with Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Adam Driver, Jason Clarke and Odessa Young.

The roles have not yet been officially confirmed, but Graham is tipped to play a younger version of Neil McCauley, played by Robert De Niro in the original film.

According to previous information from The Wrap, Bale, in turn, is expected to play a young version of detective Vincent Hanna, played by Al Pacino, while DiCaprio is expected to take on the character of Chris Shiherlis, played by Val Kilmer in the 1995 film.

Heat 2 will be based on the book published by Mann and Gardiner in 2022, which works simultaneously as a sequel and prelude to the original film. The story follows events prior to the 1995 plot, exploring the origins of McCauley and Hanna, as well as events after the bank robbery involving Shiherlis.

The first Heat follows thief Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro) as he plans one last heist and LAPD detective Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino) closes in. Mann wrote, directed and produced alongside Art Linson. The film grossed more than $187 million at the global box office and influenced generations of filmmakers.

There is still no release date for the sequel in theaters.
